Help to Build a Church in Eliye Springs Turkana Kenya
Eliye Sabbath School Brief
During the AACU 2021 Retreat at Eliye Springs, Turkana, we found a big number of young people of Pathfinder age who were engaged and taught by Pr. Macharia. After the retreat AACU saw the need to organize these children and the local community members into a sabbath school and start a church. The team was organized into a Sabbath School under the leadership of the CEO of Eliye Sprigs, Mr. Dennis Biwot and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Matundura, Teachers at Eliye Secondary School who are Adventists. They have henceforth been assisted in coordinating the church by Sister Moraa, a nurse at Eliye medical Centre and Brother Lennon Bernard, a member of AACU Kenya based in Lodwar town.
Ever since AACU through the Eliye Development committee, led by Mrs. Doris Kenyanya has facilitated several activities, Key among them being:
- Weekly Service and Lunch Program. A sabbath worship service takes place every week at Eliye sabbath school with a lunch program for the present worshippers. On average around 100 people attend.
- Bibles. AACU purchased and delivered 50 Swahili Bibles and song books to the initial members of the congregation.
- Clothes & Shoes donation. A total of 21 sacks of shoes and clothing were collected and delivered to Eliye. We appreciate the Advent hill Community Church, Karengata Church, and Newlife SDA church Nairobi for the efforts put to this.
- Chairs for the church. A total of 50 Chairs have been bought and delivered to Eliye.
- VBS. The congregation in the initial sabbaths was full of children and AACU leadership saw the need to engage them in a week-long study of scripture through a Vocational Bible School (VBS) program. The VBS was organized and run from 19th to 23rd of April.
- Church Development. The SDA church has been allocated 2 acres of land in Eliye by the local administration. So far, the land has been fenced, Water has been connected to the site, a pit latrine has been dug and constructed on the site.
We are yet to start the construction of the church. Plans are underway to erect the structure of the church within the month of August 2022.
